All about Disney

In the last few years, we were presented with re-makes of some of the best films of all time, Disney classics.  So far, 'Beauty and The Best, The Jungle Book and Maleficent have been re-made into live-action takes on the Disney movies, all taking us back to our childhood stories in a new way.  Less than a month ago we were graced with the first trailer of the re-make of perhaps one of the most loved Disney films, The Lion King, 25 years after its first release.  To no surprise, this trailer reached up to 10 million views in less than 24 hours.

The remake is under the direction of Jon Favreau who also was behind the creation of the live-action Jungle Book.  The similarity of the trailer to the original already, as well as the announcement of an all star cast, already has millions of fans going crazy, the BBC shared a range of reactions to the this first trailer showing the varieties of responses.  Some people shared their fear of having to witness Mufasa's death for a second time (just this time live-action) and others shared their delight at the actors chosen; such as Beyonce, Seth Rogan and James Earls Jones.  Some fans however portrayed their disappointment, one particular response to the BBC was;

Isn’t it gonna be the same story? Same ending? I don’t get the hype. So now they gonna remake every animation? That’s just lazy
These reactions just go to show that while most people of my generation (myself included) are extremely excited to be re-experiencing our favourite films for the first time, the value of the original classics comes into question.  Will these original Disney films eventually phase out?  Will children still be exposed to the beauty of the original creations? Will the use of colours, music, characters, designs, life lessons still be appreciated as they were 25-30 years ago?  This being said, I doubt many will be left disappointed when re-living their childhood stories, but it's important never to forget where these stories came from in the first place.
